Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is Vidcinity?
A. Vidcinity is a mobile application that makes it easy to share video with people near a place. You record a video and upload it in Vidcinity, then anyone who comes close to where that video was recorded can see it.
Q. How is this different from Foursquare?
A. Vidcinity is similar to foursquare in that it's a way to share thoughts about a particular location. However, Vidcinity doesn't require you to attach your thoughts to a business or a specific venue. Instead, it pins your video to a particular longitude and latitude. The benefit of this is that you don't have to look through a long list of venues and find the one that you want to attach the video to. Vidcinity is quicker and easier!
Q. How do I use Vidcinity?
A. There are two parts to Vidcinity: sharing and discovering videos. For either part, you'll need to download the mobile application. Currently, Vidcinity is only available on the iPhone. We're looking to produce a version for Android. If you'd like to see an Android version, be sure to log your vote over at http://vidcinity.uservoice.com/. Once you have the application on your phone, you'll need to sign up for an account. You can do this on the phone or via the Vidcinity website.

Once you're in the mobile application, discover videos just by walking around! Tap the "Videos Near Me" tab and you'll find any videos that others have recorded near you! Keep in mind that Vidcinity is brand new and you may not find any videos right away. Keep hunting though and you'll find some soon!

Now find something worth capturing on video! Maybe it's the sizzling fajitas that you ordered from your favorite restaurant. Maybe it's the bumpin' dancefloor at a club. It could be the changing leaves on a hiking trail. Anything you think is worth sharing with others, any story you want to leave for others to find is worth recording. Click the "Upload" tab and you'll be able to record a video for Vidcinity and upload it. If you're not on WiFi when you upload the video, the video will be saved in your Queue. When you get on WiFi later (at home, the office, etc.) you'll be able to tap each of the videos in your Queue and upload them.
Q. I just uploaded a video but I don't see it in My Videos, what gives?
A. The current version of Vidcinity only shows videos once they've been processed by our servers and reviewed for content appropriateness. In the future, we'll let you see your videos as soon as they're processed and we'll let you know that they're being worked on. For now, be patient and after a few minutes they'll appear in the My Videos tab (and on the website under the My Videos page.
Q. I uploaded a video but I want to change the title, how can I do that?
A. On the Vidcinity web site, you can change the title and description of the video. Start by going to My Videos on the website and then clicking one of your videos. Then on the video details page, you'll see an "Edit" link in the top right of the page. Click on that and you'll be able to make all the changes you want!
Q. I tried to upload a video and I don't see it...it's been a LONG time, is all hope lost?
A. There are a couple possible causes for this. First, did you upload something naughty? If so, it's likely we failed the video for its naughtiness. If you're pretty sure your video was decent and didn't include a lot of copyrighted video or music then it's possible there was an error on our part. If you think this is the case then please contact us and give us as much info you can about how you were trying to upload the video. Be sure to include information about where you were when you tried uploading the video (at home, at work).
Q. I uploaded a video and went to look at it on the web. When I look on the detail page for the video, it says I took the video in the middle of the ocean!
A. We've done our best to keep this from happening but it means that when you uploaded the video, we couldn't figure out where it was recorded. As a result, the video is shown as being in the ocean because that's where the geolcation of 0,0 is. If this happened to you, then please contact us and let us know the title of the video and where you think you were when you recorded it (an address or rough location will work). We'll correct the video to put it in the right place and investigate why it wasn't mapped correctly. Thanks for you patience!
Q. There are too many videos near me and some of those listed near me are a mile away. How do I only see the videos really close to where I am?
A. By default, Vidcinity shows you anything within a mile of you. If you have a lot of videos in an area, you can filter out a lot of the "noise" and just get to the stuff that's really close to you by adjusting your search radius. To do this, tap the "Settings" tab and you'll have the option to adjust your radius filter from 100 feet to 1 mile. We don't show you the exact setting you've selected (we're working on this for a future release) but you'll get the general idea. 100 feet is really small, so keep that in mind when you're setting this. If you've set your radius very low, you're much less likely to find videos around you.
